Brotherly Love (Day 3 from Cleansing Thoughts)

A year has come and gone since that night, but the memories will always be with me. Unlike the omniscient God, I do not know what lies ahead for this little one, but I do know we will never require of him what God asked if Hus own Sin—to be sent to a world who did not receive Him, to live a life of ridicule and rejection, and to suffer and die so that this little one could spend eternity with Him.    If you are a parent or a grandparent, God has entrusted you with a wonderful opportunity to pray for a small child. It is an awesome responsibility and by far the most rewarding you will ever do. I have found three scriptures that will help you build a firm foundation as you take the steps towards molding these precious gifts God has given you. The first is taken from Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV), “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” The second is found in the book of Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV), “Father’s, do not provoke your ch...

Brotherly Love (Day 2 from Cleansing Thoughts)

Later that night, when I was reading in the book of Hebrews, I realized in full the comparison between the shed blood of Christ and that of Able’s. We all know the story of how Cain took the life of his brother, Able, out of jealousy. Most feel it stemmed from Able offering a more excellent sacrifice than his brother because it was an animal. However, if we look at the emphasis given in the book of Hebrews, which is faith, then we see Able’s sacrifice was acceptable because of the attitude of his heart. Between the two brothers, Able’s faith and desire to please God demonstrated an act of true worship, while Cain’s heart was moved by jealousy, which resulted in his brother’s murder. Hebrews 12:24 states that Able’s blood cried out for vengeance while that of Christ’s speaks of forgiveness.     Sibling rivalry, merited or not, can cause brokenness in a family, holding those involved imprisoned within themselves. The relationship is fueled by jealousy, causing...

Brotherly Love (Day 1 from Cleansing Thoughts)

IT’S THE EVEV OF MY grandson’s first birthday, and as I look down into his sleeping face, I recall with great detail the evening he was born. Maybe it was because he was my first grandchild or perhaps it was the event that surrounded his birth that I remember so well.    All the expectant grandparents were waiting with great anticipation for the announcement to be made that the baby had arrived. I smiled as I thought of the single tear I had seen falling from the corner of my daughter-in-law’s eyes as the pain intensified, yet she never uttered a word. The strength  and the determination she showed caused such a warm feeling of pride to rise up within me. I thought to myself, “It wouldn’t be long now.” As we waited, thoughts flooded my mind if what this newest arrival would bring into our lives. Suddenly, the door was opened, and we were told it was a boy and the new family was doing fine. I remember vividly the first time I saw this precious little face as h...
