Broken-Hearted (Day 2 from Letters To A Friend)

Because I feel it is so important, I want to address the issue of emotional healing a step further. Disagreements are the main cause of division in the family, for any number of reasons, but they do not have to be fatal. God in all His wisdom reassures us throughout His Word, concerning emotional sorrow or having a troubled spirit, that He provides healing and restores His peace in our lives: Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalm 51:17, “. . . A broken and contrite heart—this O God, You will not despise.”  Jesus said in Luke 4:8, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me . . . because He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives.”  Why then do we allow our thoughts to hold us captive! The Hebrew and Greek words often translated contrite actually mean crushed, crippled, or broken.  A contrite heart offers no excuses or casts any blame, but humbly seeks the mercy of God.  Before Jesus left this earth He left us a gift, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”  Gods’ peace transcends all circumstances guarding your heart and mind through Christ, if we will only accept it.

You’ve heard the saying ‘God didn’t promise us a rose garden,’ well as beautiful as roses are, we must remember while working in them, they have thorns; well my friend so does life. Jesus told us we would have tribulations, but He also encouraged us by telling us He had overcome them. And, so can we because he lives in us. I have learned a lot from the thorns in this life as, one by one, as I have overcome them. The one thing you must remember is our adversary knows our weakness too and he will use it to try to destroy our faith or weaken us in the battle, just as he did with Jesus when he took Him into the desert to tempt Him. That’s when we must know our Word and defeat him just as Jesus did, “It is written!”

Broken Hearted, this sorrow too will pass, but your family is forever. Love unconditionally. Forgive instantly. Accept completely. Just as Christ did for you.

“When our days bring pain and sorrow, there will be a great tomorrow when the Lord himself will come to take us home. When my life has told its story when I’m home with Him in glory. I will praise His name forever, with my song.” D.O.S.

  1. Yes, the thorns in this life help us to grow in grace, wisdom, and love. Without those thorns we might never come to the realization of our need for a Savior. We might think we've got it made...we've escaped sorrows and pain. But in this world you will have sorrow and tribulation...but Jesus said, but I have overcome the world. Through our faith in Christ, we too are overcomers! Thank you for this reminder.
