Lessons from the Dragonfly (Day 3 from Besides Still Waters)

 

          Did you know the dragonfly’s two compound eyes makeup almost its entire head and using 80% of its brainpower? The Bible tells us that the Godhead, the trinity meaning three in one, is made up of God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit of God; and has the unique attribute of having infinite power, universal presence, and all knowledge. 1 Corinthians 11:3 tells us that God is the head of Christ and Christ is the head of the church and that he, “. . . gave Him to be head over all things to the church.” (Ephesians 1:22 NKJV)  So you see the dragonfly, one of God’s simplest creations, in man’s eyes, speaks volumes about its creator, the cross and our new life in Christ.

          To me the beauty of God’s creation is that I see Him all around me, I wait for Him to speak through what I see because His living word dwells in me. I don’t know your past or your present circumstances; but I do know the God who has a plan for your life, one that will give you hope and a future.  Don’t let fear hold you back; there are lessons in the life of Peter that will help you to see how releasing your fears can bring miracles into your life.  Jesus sent his disciples to the other side of the Sea of Galilee while he went up the mountain to pray.  While they were in the middle of the sea there was a great storm and their boat was tossed to and fro by the waves; all of the disciples were afraid. Then through the storm, they saw Jesus walking towards them on the water and they cried out in fear; all but Peter who answered the Lord, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So He said ‘Come’ . . .” (Matthew 14:28-29 NKJV); of all the disciple's Peter was the only one who trusted the Lord climbed out of the boat and walking on the water. It wasn’t until he took his eyes off the Lord and began to focus on his fear that he began to sink. Does the Lord expect you to walk on water, no, but He does expect you to trust in Him to be willing? The word tells us that when Peter began to sink “. . . he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him. . .” (Matthew 14:30-31 NKJV). Even in my darkest hour, He was there for me and he wants to be there for you as well.

          I wrote this story as hurricane Irma was ravishing Florida where my sister and her family live. It was a way for me to think of her and stay focused on Him. I wanted my mind not to dwell on the circumstances but on the one who calms the storms.  When I sat down to write my sister was always on my mind and the cross, the dragonfly, was before me; she is my best friend and I couldn’t be there for her so I put her in God’s hands and stayed focused on h\Him.  When I spoke with her after the storm was over that they were all safe and had minimal damage to their house, but one thing she shared will always remind me of this day; she had left her dragonfly on the patio screen and it was still there.

          I would like to pray with you a scripture that was prayed over me when I accepted Christ into my life from Ephesians 1:15-23, “. . . I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power towards us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

     Precious child of God, there is nothing more paralyzing than fear and has the power to bind you in chains for years, if you let it. Whatever it is that has ahold of you have to let it go! Promise me you will tell someone when you do the power is broken and will free.
